Wall Street Journal

Everyone knows the Wall Street Journal - it is a great publication for any company to have media placement. A reporter for the real estate section was writing about real estate in the low country (South Carolina and Georgia). I was able to help him develop a side bar on the colleges "Alumni Design Show House" project. The sidebar included a photograph, statistics on the college and quotes from administration.

Jacksonville Magzine

As mentioned in this post, a major goal in media relations is to raise your spokespersons as experts in their field.

Another example of this concept in action is the above article in Jacksonville Magazine. They were looking for tips on home design concepts that will allow residents accessibility when they age. I connected the editor with an architecture professor. This professor had focused his work on designing public and private buildings to be accessible to all. The editor liked the professors ideas and asked him to write the article.

CONNECT Savannah

Connect Savannah was a local entertainment newspaper for my employer's city.

While national media coverage is always exciting and glitzy for the client, local coverage is just as important for securing recognition and support. While working in Savannah, I enjoyed building relationships with local writers and broadcasters.

Above is my favorite placement in Connect Savannah - a feature on Sequential Art students creation of new Twilight Zone graphic novels, which were to be sold nation wide. I also worked with this publication for every major event hosted by the college.

ICON Magazine

Another goal when coordinating media relations for a college is to position its professors as experts in their field.

One example of this is the article placed in ICON magazine, the official publication of the American Society of Interior Design (ASID). I coordinated with the writer to interview both the current chair of the interior design department and former dean of the school of building arts, both of whom could give strong quotes on the future of interior design education.

The result was multiple statements being used in the feature, as well as the writer herself expressing personal interest in the colleges online interior design masters program. We followed up by sending admissions material and giving her a tour of the Atlanta campus.

Golden Isle Magazine

Working for a college, you meet many students and professors contributing to amazing projects. The trick has always been to find a publication that is interested, or to convince them they should be interested.

Golden Isle Magazine, a regional magazine in Georgia, was working on a feature about restoring old homes. I leveraged preservation and restoration work done by a Historic Preservation professor and his students to secure placement in the article.

Chronicle of the Horse

Chronicle of the Horse is an Equestrian focused magazine. A co-worker of mine secured an editors interest in the college's new Equestrian Center before resigning. I took over the project after she left and worked with their photo editor, selecting top quality images for a 4 page photo spread. After the feature published, I maintained contact with the publication about future Equestrian events.

The Artist's Magazine

I worked with The Artist Magazine for an article titled "Learning for Life," supplying the writer with high quality images, top interviews with administration, and the latest statistics for the college to secure a full-spread feature.

Interiors and Sources

Interiors and Sources is an interior design trade publication. The below two placements were the result direct pitching with emailed press releases and follow up phone conversations.

Boutique Design

Boutique Design, an interior design industry magazine, was looking for a "rising star" studying interior design. I worked with the my employer's interior design department to select a stellar student and her professor. We then contacted the writer for an interview and shared many images from the student portfolio. The result was inclusion in a 4 page article with three other top art colleges.

Above is the page on our student.
